Job Purpose

The Clinical Placement Co-ordinator (CPC) will guide and support Pre-registration BSc Nursing Students in assigned clinical areas to ensure that the clinical placement meet the requirements of the education programme with regard to planned experiences and learning outcomes.  The CPC will guide and support students from all disciplines on clinical placement in the general division as follows; General nursing, Mental Health nursing, Intellectual Disabilities nursing, Midwifery and Erasmus students.

The remit of CPC posts includes:

  • the provision of support to students, preceptors and nursing staff  in all learning environments,
  • the provision of support to the NPDC in practice development activities
  • The CPC plays a key role in ensuring safe, high quality learning environments that contribute to patient safety and future workforce sustainability.

Organisational Context

The HSE has created six new health regions. Each region is responsible for providing both hospital and community care for the people in that area. Bringing community health services and hospitals together means we can take a more patient-centred approach to healthcare.

 

HSE Dublin and North East provides health and social care to North Dublin, Louth, Meath,

Monaghan and most areas of Cavan.

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda is a 504 bedded acute general hospital incorporating a regional trauma orthopaedic service, a maternity unit and paediatric services.  The Clinical Placement coordinator’s under the governance of Practice Development also provide cover in Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, Louth County Hospital, Dundalk, Care of the Elderly in Drogheda and Dundalk and the Hermitage, Dublin.  

 

The nursing students who complete their clinical placements in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and the related sites are affiliated to Dundalk institute of Technology.

Essential Criteria

Each candidate must, at the latest date for receipt of completed application form for the post:

 

  • Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses kept by Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (NMBI) or be entitled to be so registered

And

 

  • Have at least 5 years post registration experience of which 2 must be in a student learning environment with preceptorship experience.

and

 

  • Possess a 3rdlevel qualification at Level 7 (ordinary degree) or higher

 

and

 

  • Candidate must provide evidence of Continuing ProfessionalDevelopment

 

and

 

  • Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role

 

 

Note: Post holders must maintain annual registration with NMBI.
