The HSE has now created 6 new health regions.  Each region is responsible for providing both hospital and community care for the people in that area.

The core vision driving establishment and implementation of the HSE Health Regions is the continued improvement of Patient and Service User care through

a more joined-up integrated health and social care system with an integrated approach to service planning and delivery.

Integrated Healthcare Areas are the substructures within each of the 6 health regions. There are 20 Integrated Healthcare Areas in total. They serve a population of between

150,000 and 450,000 and will take account of local geographies, population size, needs and services.

Integrated Healthcare Areas bring together both acute and community services as well as other non-HSE providers.

This will be crucial to supporting and enabling integrated health and social care.

The HSE Dublin and North East health region is divided into 4 healthcare areas:

  • HSE Cavan Monaghan
  • HSE Louth Meath
  • HSE Dublin North City and West
  • HSE Dublin North County
