Job Purpose

The ADON Dementia Quality post will:

 

  • Lead and support the implementation of quality improvement in the key areas of Dementia including (but not limited to) multidisciplinary collaboration, education, awareness, reporting on key developments and progress, driving new initiatives in dementia improvement and quality and implementing best practise approaches include leading the implementation of the clinical guideline on appropriate prescribing of psychotropic medications for people with dementia (NCG No21).
  • Coordinate the facilitation of the Irish National Audit of Dementia in the acute hospitals.
  • Promote and facilitate the development of a continuous culture of quality in dementia care in the acute setting in order to improve patient experience.
  • Strategically plan, develop and evaluate dementia care in collaboration with the nursing management teams, nursing and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Work closely with other ADON’s for dementia quality improvement, hospital managers, service managers, Directors of Nursing, Regional Directors of Nursing & Midwifery, management teams, Clinical/Medical teams CNS’s and RANP’s Dementia/Older Person’s to create awareness and recognition of the principals underpinning dementia quality and improvement.
  • Work in close collaboration with the National Dementia office to lead and manage Improvement work in accordance with the National Strategy for Dementia, and work in this regard with colleagues across the region , as well as other key statutory and non-statutory services, persons with Dementia and their family and /or carers.
  • Develop and manage nursing service quality assurance relative to dementia in such a way as to support and ensure the delivery of the highest standards of evidence based clinical practice and nursing care enhancing clinical effectiveness and ensuring a high degree of patient satisfaction.

Essential Criteria

Professional Qualifications, Experience etc.

  • Be registered in the General Division of the live register of Nurses (Including Mental Health Nurses) (maintained by Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland)

              And

  • Have at least five years’ (5) post registration experience of nursing including a minimum of two years (2) experience/involvement in clinical practice management, practice development, education and/or quality improveme

             And

  • Have a strong background in dementia care, with experience working directly with people with dementia

             And

  • Hold a relevant post graduate award at level 9

             And

  • Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

Annual Registration

  • Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the appropriate / relevant Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) for the role.

 And

  • Practitioners must confirm annual registration with the NMBI to the HSE by way of the Annual patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
