Connolly Hospital currently employs 10.5 WTE permanent Consultant Anaesthetists and one temporary consultant.
The Department provides perioperative anaesthetic services to four operating theatres and seven Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds. The ICU delivers comprehensive multi-system critical care. Additionally, anaesthesia services support Cardiology and Radiology Departmental services, and the Department operates two pre-operative assessment clinics per week.
Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown has governance of The Swords Surgical Hub, a new dedicated day case facility and part of a national initiative to provide timely access to day case surgery in a manner that is not impacted by inpatient service needs and demands. It is a regional unit and will facilitate surgical time for surgeons from a variety of institutions from across the DNE group.
Connolly Hospital has been allocated clinical governance for this unit and as such, anaesthesia services for the hub will be facilitated by the Anaesthesiology Department in Connolly Hospital, and appointees can expect to have some sessions across both sites and in a manner that ensures optimisation of clinical services in Connolly Hospital. The Swords Surgical Hub conducts day-case surgery only, does not have in-patient beds and does not operate on-call services.
Any appointee will have duties that include all aspects of services delivered by the department including perioperative care, pre-operative assessment clinics, and critical care services.
On-call duties will be conducted in Connolly Hospital and include critical care on-call cover. This expansion will increase elective theatre capacity, ensure sustainable perioperative service delivery, and enhance the Department’s contribution to education, training, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
