Job Purpose

The Senior Respiratory Physiologist will be responsible for the provision of a high quality lung function and sleep diagnostic tests and procedures under the direction of the Chief 11 Respiratory Physiologist. The post holder is expected to build effective working relationships, communicate clearly across disciplines, and contribute to a culture of collaboration, education, and clinical excellence.

The Respiratory and Sleep diagnostics department is committed to providing a professional, flexible and quality assured service, delivering reports of the highest standard. Our objectives are to:

 

  • Measure the effect of disease on lung function
  • Follow the course of any disease affecting lung function and sleep
  • Assess pre-operative surgical risk
  • Provide clinicians with reports of the highest quality
  • Provide a diagnostic sleep service as per local policy
  • To engage in modernisation and implement change according to best international practice.

There is currently 1 permanent whole-time vacancy available in Connolly Hospital.

 

A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for Respiratory Physiologist, Senior Connolly Hospital from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.

Essential Criteria

Candidates must have at the latest date of application:

  1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience etc

NOTE: Evidence of recognition of qualifications as outlined below must be provided with job application documents.

 

Possess the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Dublin Institute of Technology.

 

Or

 

Possess the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin)

 

Or

 

Possess the MSc in Clinical Physiology from Atlantic Technological University Sligo (ATU Sligo)

 

Or

 

Possess an equivalent relevant scientific qualification (Level 8) as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Physiology (IICMP) or confirmed by HSE Recognition of qualification process

 

Or

 

Possess the Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) from Dublin Institute of Technology

 

Or

 

An Equivalent scientific qualification as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Science or confirmed by HSE Recognition of qualification process awarded in or before 2005 (See Note 1*).

 

And

 

All candidates must have a minimum of 3 years fulltime (or an aggregate of 3 years fulltime) relevant post qualification experience.

 

And

Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office

 

Note 1*:

In exceptional cases, where the IICMP/HSE are not in a position to validate pre 2005 qualifications, the Clinical Measurement Physiologists experts on the eligibility/ selection board may, at their discretion, deem as eligible:

HSE applicants who are currently employed as Clinical Measurement Physiologists, and who were employed in or before 2005, on the presentation of proof of their qualification/s that was acceptable on the commencement of their employment.

 

  1. Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

 

  1. Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

 

 

Post Specific Requirements:

 

Candidate must demonstrate:

 

  • depth and breadth of experience in providing a service in sleep diagnostic and PAP therapeutic services
  • depth and breadth of experience in providing a cardiopulmonary exercise testing service
  • depth and breadth of experience in providing a bronchial challenge test service

 

Other requirements specific to the post

 

Participate in rota with flexible working hours covering lung function and sleep services at Connolly hospital and lung function services located at the integrated care hub at St Mary’s campus, Phoenix park, Dublin 8
