Organisational Context

Purpose of the Post

The Staff Nurse will play a key role in a range of HSE immunisation programmes as part of
the mobile vaccination delivery model, in a variety of settings and as per the standard
operating procedures (SOPs).

 

Details of Service

The Staff Nurse appointed to this post will work within the Integrated Vaccination
Programme, working as a part of multi-disciplinary teams delivering a coordinated
approach to the rollout of a range of HSE Vaccination Programmes including but not
limited to

 

COVID-19 Vaccination.
Influenza vaccination for adults and children
Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection and International Protection Applicants Catch up Programme.
RSV Community Programme
HPV Catch Up Programme
MMR Catch Up Programme
BCG Programme
Response to emerging threats/ outbreak response


The vaccination programme has evolved, developed and expanded, and covers a
number of vaccination programmes. A dynamic, flexible and responsive approach to
the roll out of immunisation programmes will be required to meet future demands. This
will require the team members to be agile in terms of work attendance patterns and
locations.

Qualifications and/or Experience

 

Candidates must have at the latest date of application:


1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc


(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:


(i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, in the General Nurse
Division of the Register of Nurses kept by the Nursing & Midwifery
Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na
hÉireann).


And


(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, (including a high
standard of clinical and administrative capacity), for the proper discharge of the
duties of the office.


2. Annual registration
(i) On appointment, practitioners must maintain live annual registration
on the General Nurse Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives
maintained by Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI]
(Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).


And


(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with the NMBI to the
HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate
(PSAC)


Please note that appointment to and continuation in posts that require statutory registration
is dependent upon the post holder maintaining annual registration in the relevant division
of the register maintained by:
Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing Midwifery Board Ireland)

 

2. Mandatory training
Practitioners must commit to undertake all essential training in the administration of
the medicinal products, as approved by the regulatory body for the profession
concerned or requested by the HSE prior to commencement of vaccinations.


3. Health
A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of
undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would
indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.


4. Character
Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

 

Post Specific Requirements

Demonstrate depth and breadth of knowledge of the Vaccination Service and post
qualification experience in administering vaccinations in a community setting as relevant to
the role.
