Job Purpose

The Quality and Safety Manager plays a pivotal role in assuring the full participation of the Hospital in the delivery of high quality care that is evidence based including the advancement of Quality Improvement programmes by departments and individuals.

The Quality and Safety Department provides support to all hospital staff to enable them to incorporate safe management practice and quality in all activities in the hospital. Activities include analysing incidents and identifying trends, co-ordination of incident reviews, promotion of clinical audit throughout the organisation and promoting the health and safety of staff and patients.

The Quality and Safety Manager will also act as the co-ordinator for matters relating to clinical claims and coroner’s inquests in the hospital by liaising with the State Claims Agency and appointed legal teams.

The department strongly promotes patient advocacy through the management of complaints and service user feedback.

The Quality and Safety Manager will act as deputy to the Head of Q&S.

 

The salary scale for the post is: (01/02/2026)

€60,613 €62,094 €63,824 €65,560 €67,302 €68,858 €70,442 €71,985 €73,516 €76,151 €78,795 LSIs.

 

There are currently 2 vacancies available in the Quality and Safety Department.

Location of post: Connolly Hospital and Surgical Hub Swords.

 

1 permanent, whole-time position

1 permanent, part-time position (0.5 WTE) available.

 

A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for Grade VII, Quality and Safety Manager in Connolly Hospital and the Surgical Hub Swords from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.

Essential Criteria

This campaign is confined to staff who are currently employed by the HSE, TUSLA, other statutory health agencies*, or a body which provides services on behalf of the HSE under Section 38 of the Health Act 2004 as per Workplace Relations Commission agreement -161867

Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

 

  • Have worked in the acute adult hospital sector in Ireland at senior level (Grade V or above / or equivalent HSCP or Nursing grades) for minimum of two years                                                                                                           And
  • Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability, for the proper discharge of the office.

 

Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

 

Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

 

Post Specific Requirements: Candidates must have at the latest date of application:

  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience in leading and implementing Quality improvement initiatives within a Health setting.
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience of Team Leadership and collaborative working with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of knowledge of Quality Initiatives and Tools to support QI activity.
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of knowledge of the HIQA Standards for Safer Better Healthcare.

Other requirements specific to the post:

  •  Proficiency with computer systems including Microsoft Word and Excel software.
  • Have access to appropriate transport to fulfil the requirements of the role
