The purpose of the post is:

• To provide improved quality and support on the Cavan site to the existing Diabetic service provided to expectant mothers booked for maternity care at Cavan Monaghan Hospital. 
• Play a pivotal role in developing further the services at Cavan Monaghan Hospital for expectant mothers with Diabetes in pregnancy as part of the MDT in collaboration with services in OLOLH and Rotunda Hospital. 

The Governance of the post sits under Women’s Health Governance. 

There is currently one Permanent Whole-time post available in Women’s and Children’s Services, Cavan General Hospital

Each candidate must, at the latest date for receipt of completed applications for the post: 

1.  Professional Qualifications & Experience

Are registered in the relevant division of the Midwifery Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by Nursing and Midwifery of Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) or entitled to be so registered

And 

Have at least 5 years post registration experience of which 2 must be in the specialty or related area.

And 

Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development

And 

Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of role

2.  Annual registration

(i) Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann). 

(ii) Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

3. Health

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of

undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

4. Character

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character

Post Specific Requirements

• Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience relevant to the role.
• Demonstrate depth and breadth of midwifery leadership experience
• Have some level of clinical experience working specifically in Diabetic services.

Other Requirements Specific to the Post

• Desirable / have undertaken relevant courses or attended relevant workshops, conferences or seminars and/or will provide a commitment to undertake such specialist courses in the area as relevant to the role in diabetes.
• Be willing to undertake a period of shadowing or clinical placement in a Paediatric Diabetic centre to enhance relevant knowledge and skills.
