Job Purpose

The purpose of the post is to:

 

  • Develop and lead on clinical practice in midwifery/nursing within the service.

 

  • Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate Midwifery and Nursing practice within the service and other care settings/organisations where students are placed. Promote an environment for professional Midwifery and Nursing practice, which is consistent with the mission, vision and values of the organisation

 

  • Manage the Midwifery and Nursing service quality assurance programmes in such a way as to support and ensure the delivery of the highest standard of patient focused Midwifery and Nursing care throughout the hospital

 

  • Ensure through supervision of the Practice Development team that the clinical areas within the hospital and in other care settings outside the hospital to which Midwifery students are assigned for clinical placements provide optimum learning environments, and are capable of meeting the learning objectives set by the Third Level College and the NMBI for the students

Essential Criteria

 

Each candidate must at the latest date for receipt of completed applications:

 ▪   Be registered in the Midwifery Division of the live register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing Midwifery Board Ireland)

 

  • Have management experience at CMM2 grade or above.


                                  and

  • Have at least five years (5) post registration experience of Midwifery including a minimum of two years (2) experience/involvement in clinical practice management, practice development, education or quality improvement.      


                                  and

  • Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development at the appropriate level.

 

                                  and

  • Possess the requisite knowledge, experience and ability (including a high standard of suitability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

 

Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

 

Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

 

Please note that appointment to and continuation in posts that require statutory registration is dependent upon the post holder maintaining annual registration in the relevant division of the register maintained by Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing Midwifery Board Ireland)
