Job Purpose

The post of CNM 2 has a pivotal role in service planning, co-ordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area. The main responsibilities are quality assurance, resource management, staffing and staff development, practice development, facilitating communication and professional / clinical leadership.

 

The salary scale for the post is: (01/06/2026)
€62,699 €63,737 €64,615 €66,048 €67,633 €69,189 €70,745 €72,497 €74,123 €76,921 €79,227 LSI.

Essential Criteria

Each candidate must, at the latest date for receipt of completed applications for the post possess:

 

1a. Professional Qualifications & Experience 

  • Are registered in the relevant Division of the Register of Nurses kept by An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be entitled to be so registered.                                                                                                                                                      And
  • Have at least 5 years post registration experience (or an aggregate of 5 years post registration full time experience) of which 2 post registration full time experience (or an aggregate of 2 years post registration full time experience) must be in the specialty area of Plastics and orthopaedic.            And
  • Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
    And
  • Candidates must demonstrate evidence of Continuing Professional Development - Possess a Higher diploma in Theatre Nursing.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      And

b. Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.

 

2.Annual Registration

  • On appointment, Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Board Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).                                                                                   And
  • Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

3.Health

 

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

 

4.Character

 

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

 

Post Specific Requirements

  • Depth and breadth of experience in perioperative nursing within an acute surgical setting, with specific exposure to orthopaedic and plastic surgery procedures, including elective and trauma services.
  • Depth and breadth of experience in coordinating and managing theatre lists, including complex, high-volume and time-sensitive surgical cases, ensuring patient safety, efficiency, and optimal patient flow.
  • Depth and breadth of experience in the management and safe utilisation of specialist surgical equipment and instrumentation relevant to orthopaedic and plastic surgery, including implant systems, power tools, and microsurgical equipment.
  • Depth and breadth of experience in infection prevention and control practices specific to surgical settings, including the management of sterile fields and aseptic techniques in high-risk procedures.
