Job Purpose

The post of Radiographer Clinical Specialist (CT) has a pivotal role in service planning, co-ordinating, and managing activity and allocated resources within the unit.

The main responsibilities are: quality assurance, scheduling workflow, staff development, facilitating communication and professional/clinical leadership.

The Clinical Specialist Radiographer (CT) will be primarily responsible for ensuring that CT is performed to a high standard of technical quality in a caring and efficient manner and in line with established guidelines and operating procedures. The post holder must function integrally within the Radiology.

The post holder will be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team and will lead, guide and supervise radiographic and other staff to successfully manage the CT service, with effective utilisation of all resources allocated.

The post holder must be able to manage in a rapidly changing environment and be willing to undertake such additional duties within the Diagnostic Imaging Department, as may be assigned from time to time.

 

A panel may be formed from which future permanent,temporary,full time or part time vacancies may be filled.

Organisational Context

 

The HSE has created six new health regions. Each region is responsible for providing both hospital and community care for the people in that area. Bringing community health services and hospitals together means we can take a more patient-centred approach to healthcare.

 

HSE Dublin North East provides health and social care to North Dublin, Louth, Meath, Monaghan and most areas of Cavan.

 

Community Healthcare Services are delivered through the HSE and its funded agencies to people in local communities, as close as possible to people’s homes.  Community Healthcare Services focus on keeping you well so that you can continue to live at home or close to home through our health promotion, disease screening, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation programs. You can refer yourself to most Community Healthcare Services or through your GP, public health nurse, community mental health team, etc. Services include - Primary Care, Social Care - Older Persons, Social Care – Disabilities, Mental Health, Health and Wellbeing, Quality, Safety and Service Improvement.

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Radiology Department services:

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital is the Regional Centre for Orthopaedics and Trauma.

The Radiology Department in Our Lady of Lourdes provides a Diagnostic Imaging service to the Northeast, including In-patients, Out-patients, Emergency Department, AMAU, ICU/HDU/CCU, Paediatric and Neonatal referrals, Oncology patients, GP Referrals, Orthopaedic Theatre.

General Radiography includes orthopaedics, theatre, paediatrics, Fluoroscopy, Portables, 2x 160 Slice CT, 3 x Ultrasound suites, Interventional radiology and MRI service provided by Alliance medical.

 

NIMIS RIS/PACS

A 24 hour emergency ‘on-call’ service is provided. Including C.T. and Orthopaedic/Trauma theatre on-call

 

Emergency Department with two dedicated x-ray room and Resus/Trauma Area.

 

Essential Criteria

Candidates must have at the latest date of application: -

 

  1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.

 

(a) Candidates for appointment must:

 

 

(i)

Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Radiography Division of the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU. (https://www.coru.ie/)

 

 

And

(ii)

Have not less than 6 years full time (or an aggregate of 6 years) post qualification clinical experience.

 

 

And

 

(iii)

Possess a recognised postgraduate course relevant to the specialism (Quality & Qualifications Ireland Level 9) as recognised by the IIRRT and have no less than 4 years practical clinical experience working in the speciality. Practical clinical experience will include time assigned to work in the relevant specialist area but needs to comply with the following breakdown:

·         Pre commencement of a postgraduate course (maximum of 1 year* allowed);

·         Time spent completing the post graduate course (maximum of 1 year** allowed);

·         A minimum of 2 years’ experience* following completion of a postgraduate course.

 

*A minimum of 12 weeks assigned to work in the relevant specialised area will be required for each relevant year to be counted.

 

**The research component of a postgraduate programme will count towards the post course time once the Radiographer has successfully completed the taught components of the programme.

 

 

And

 

(iv)

Requisite Knowledge & Ability

 

Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, management, leadership and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

 

 

And

(v)

Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Radiography Division of the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.

 

 

  1. 2. Annual Registration

 

(i)

·         On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on the relevant division of the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU.

 

(ii) 

·         And

 

·         Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
