The purpose of the Clinical Placement Coordinator (CPC) is to support and guide pre-registration nursing students during their clinical placements. They act as a vital link between academic institutions and healthcare providers to ensure students achieve the specific learning outcomes required by their educational programs. In addition they contribute to quality improvement initiatives lead out by the Nurse Practice Department.

The salary scale for the post is: (01/06/2026)

A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for Nursing Clinical Placement Co-ordinator, Connolly Hospital from which current and future, specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled

1. Each candidate must, at the latest date for receipt of completed applications for the post possess:

1a. Professional Qualifications & Experience

(i) Be a registered nurse/midwife on the active Register of Nurses or Midwives held by An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be eligible to be so registered

                               AND

(ii)Be registered in a Division of the register in which the application is being made.

                            OR

In exceptional circumstances, which will be assessed on a case by case basis, be registered in another Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives

                              And

iii)Have successfully completed post registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider, which verifies that the applicant has achieved a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic award at a minimum of a Level 8 (60 ECTS) or higher relevant to the area of education or a health related subject of care prior to application.

                          OR

Can provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute that they have achieved the number of 60 ECTs credits equivalent to a minimum of a Level 8 or higher standard, relevant to the area of education or a health related subject of care prior to application.

                           AND

(iv) Have a minimum of 5 years post registration full time experience or an aggregate of 5 years full time experience in the division of the register in which the application is being made, of which 2 years must be in a practice learning environment.

                          AND

(v)Have completed a Teaching and Assessing or a Preceptorship in Practice course, programme or module.

                          AND

(vi)Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.

                         AND

Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.

                     AND

(viii) Have the ability to practice safely and effectively fulfilling his/her professional responsibility within his/her scope of practice.

                       AND

Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, professional and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.

    2. Annual Registration:

(i) Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the appropriate/relevant Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery board of ireland (NMBI) for the role

                    AND

(ii) Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

    3. Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

  4.Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

Post Specific Requirements

Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience mentoring undergraduate nursing students or facilitating clinical orientation and skills assessment within a clinical ward.
